Counselling takes place when a counsellor sees a client in a private and confidential setting to explore a difficulty the client is having, distress they may be experiencing or perhaps their dissatisfaction with life, or loss of a sense of direction and purpose. It is always difficult to take the plunge but the therapeutic process begins when you request to be in counselling.
Life issues such as anger, anxiety, depression, grief and stress can become very intense and counselling is an opportunity to understand them in a safe and contained space. By understanding your issues is a step in the right direction towards making a positive change.
Counselling provides real opportunity for development and change. While we can’t alter what has already happened, we can improve our understanding of the past, gain insight into the present and take greater control of our future. Whatever is on our mind, counselling can help us to make sense of difficult issues and take positive steps to resolve them.
Your issues/ difficulties may be arising from various areas of your life and perhaps they are about past experiences, current issues such as stress, conflicts at work or you have difficulty in your relationships. So in counselling, each area can be explored to better understand the causes and the symptoms to be able to make better sense of them, which is often difficult and stifled when you go through tough times.
